I looked through the mail and found a red envelope from my family. I couldn’t figure out why mom would ever send anything in a colored envelope, and I walked upstairs wondering 1. if it cost extra to mail a colored envelope and 2. if the sticker of the rectangular white frame on the back of the envelope meant that USPS checked the contents somehow because they thought the envelope might contain a bomb (i.e. Howlers from Harry Potter.)
Needless to say, I was surprised when I opened it and found a Valentine’s Day card from home. Honestly, I can’t say that I’ve been completely not thinking about Valentine’s Day, but it’s definitely been low (really, really low) on my list of priorities.
I have the best family in the world, a family that sends me a Valentine’s Day card not because of some stupid ridiculous holiday but because they truly love me with the love of the Lord.
To have such a family is an immense blessing. More and more I realize that the personal picture I have of God is so heavily influenced by my parents, who love me because He first loved them.
It is more blessed to give than to receive. As I have received love from my parents, a love founded in something greater than us, may I be bold and generous in sharing that love with others.
