re: Winter Retreat
This past week I was having a conversation with Nina, and she was telling me about how she was planning on not checking her Facebook until next Wednesday. Why that specific date? Because she said people would stop talking about retreat by then.  Those words may sound harsh, but as I listened to her I realized that there was truth to what she was saying. The way we approach media today is different...

Earlier tonight,
I was eating dinner and talking with P. Mike. We spoke about this semester and yesterday, and something interesting came up in the course of our conversation.  My two younger brothers and I, we’re so completely different in terms of personalities, interests, dreams, etc. but one thing that we have in common is the things that we struggle with.

“I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in...”
– Psalm 4:8 I’m going to intentionally go to sleep for the first time in over a month, instead of just knocking out while reading or working on something. I’m kind of excited.

My grandfather,
sent this to his daughter, my mother, and then she sent it to her sons.  I gave you life, but I can’t live it for you. 우린 널 낳아주었지만, 널 대신해 살아줄 수가 없단다. I can teach you things, but I can’t make you learn. 우린 너에게 뭔가를 가르쳐 줄 수는 있지만, 그걸 네가 배우게끔 하진 못한단다. I can give you direction, but I can’t always be there to lead you 우린 너에게 방향을 잡아줄 순 있지만, 언제까지나 널 이끌어줄 순 없단다. I can allow you...

When I got home today,
I looked through the mail and found a red envelope from my family. I couldn’t figure out why mom would ever send anything in a colored envelope, and I walked upstairs wondering 1. if it cost extra to mail a colored envelope and 2. if the sticker of the rectangular white frame on the back of the envelope meant that USPS checked the contents somehow because they thought the envelope might...

I can’t believe it’s already Thursday, this semester is flying by before my eyes.  Last night, I bit the bullet and bought cankerbane.com along with another URL for my personal website. I’m hoping to set up, design, and establish cankerbane as my personal blog on the Internet when I have more time.  But that’s the thing right now. There just doesn’t seem to be any...

Last night, I was supposed to make dumplings with Tong and Michael, but I forgot that weeks before I had promised my housemate Joseph that I would go to the Ark with him yesterday. For a moment I debated what I should do, but I decided to keep my word and go with Joseph.  I was blessed.  There was such a sincere atmosphere of joy and freedom the moment I walked in. I think those two words really...

My grandma asked me if I was exercising, and I told her I bike. She gave me a skeptical look and then basically told me the only exercises worth doing are those stretches people do in unison at schools and parks in Asia…

melodykim: C.S. Lewis & Prayer →
melodykim: “You don’t have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.” - C.S. Lewis “Whatever their bodies do affects their souls.” - Screwtape to Wormwood on prayer I just read two passages Lewis wrote about prayer. What I found most interesting was his emphasis on the body as instrumental to prayer. I…

My dad sincerely and intentionally told me he was proud of me and how far I’d come, I knew he was serious because he turned away from writing his email on his laptop and looked directly towards me.  I almost cried, and knew I was getting emotional because I was shelling peanuts over the trash can and every peanut I removed fell through my hands into the bag.

randei.: Is My Work Good Enough? →
ahlecks: solsticeretouch: This is the one question I get asked a lot. It’s one I believe that needs to be addressed. Have you found yourself asking this question? It reflects uncertainty in your own work - a lack of confidence in your product. If you have to ask, it illustrates that…

Spring and Summer 2012
Soon, I need to make a very critical decision for myself in the year 2012.  A few days ago, I received news from Köln International School of Design (KISD) in Cologne, Germany that I had been accepted as an exchange student for their Summer 2012 semester. In Germany, they have Winter and Summer semesters rather than Fall and Spring semesters.  This is great news, for I had applied to two schools...
